after getting through this weekend and hearing about the attacks against the lost boys, i'm kind of sad and disappointed.

yeah, they were loud...okay fine, they got the message and turned it down. sound does carry at krf, there are times when the joust is heard all over too. especially when there are not a lot of patrons. so what if you have to hear the same show over and over? lord knows i worked next to the mud pit for years and that show got old too. but thats the thing, the patrons are the ones that rove around.

yeah, they butcher and parody rock songs and rock out some rennie songs....so what? who's to say if its bad or good? do the patrons like it? yes? then good. the more patrons there are, the more money we can make...right??

so, how does the crew react to the lost boys? we hate rose them. lots. i'm not even sure how many or how far it went. and rumor has it one booth is trying to petition them to be kicked out? (and i hope thats not true) why? again, where there are more patrons, there is more money. what we all seem to forget is that the faire exists as a money making device. for all of us. luckily, we can have fun there too. (and the lost boys probably have no control over what stage theyre assigned to either.)

if you want a private party where you can dress up in ren garb...go to pennsic.

i feel really bummed about the kind of welcome we give to an act newly on the road trying to bring something fun to a faire.

i know the general mood has gravitated toward bitterness over the years. but i still hope that i will see all my friends there, that they know i am happy to see them, that they are the reason i come back every year. because it is my home, even if its slightly dysfunctional.

i just hope the rest of the run gets better for all of us.

You took the words right out of my mouth! That and they are sweeties! I love them, and I think that they are talented, and great. But that is just me.

People need a reality check!

It was COMPLETELY UNPROFESSIONAL

This act has a national following. They have been nothing but gracious as far as my interaction has been with them.

If vendors or the patrons have any problem with an act, then they are to take it up with the ENTERTAINMENT DIRECTOR DIRECTLY. PERIOD. THEY are the people that saw their audition, and THEY are the people that HIRED them and are PAYING them to be there PER THEIR WISHES. The Lost Boys are NOT there to punish gamers or anyone else with their noise or their content. The fact that this behavior even happened disgusts me, and appalls me.

And the complete cowardice of those sending hate roses does not shock me. Obviously, people do not have the balls to actually deliver their message personally. But, this too, is not surprising.

I hope this weekend was the end of it. I hope those that needed to be taught a lesson got it in spades with exclamation points. I hope the Lost Boys teach everyone a lesson by acting like grown ups and showing everyone what a real professional is.

And on a personal note, I cannot believe that my 'faire family' would treat anyone this way. I am ashamed.

I was trying to think of a way to make a comment here about The Lost Boys and how it could tie into the 'final end' of KRF and bonnie's blah-blah-blah.

but I just can't come up with one.

Feel free to start your own rumor about any particular faire closing.

Hrm, now THAT would be a very specific meme. A 'your favorite faire is closing' web page.... rumor mill creator thingie... hrmm....

;)

Yeah and you know what? You are so wrong. Unless they are an "IN" patron, they don't know anything about what Bonnie or Dick has done over the years. They don't know, and they don't CARE.

They come to be entertained, they come to see a fantasy festival. Nowhere in the program or marketing does it ever claim to be a RENAISSANCE faire. And have you seen BRISTOL lately? They've had Robin Hood show up for, chrissakes, and fairies stroll around the whole place. Georgia, a successful and profitable show, has had the Lost Boys - AND THEY HAVE A FOLLOWING. Have you seen our scenario lately? Six guys in drag. Do you know how many shows in faires in the country incorporate that? Plenty.

You may not like the entertainment, you may not like the choice of lineup, that's your problem.

But starting rumors, being negative and generally acting immature is only an insult to the vendors who work their asses off to bring product to the show, insults the apprentices who WORK FOR FREE, and insults the acts that come from all over the country to perform.

I am so sick and tired of people like you who can't leave their actual name, can't actually leave a valid complaint at our feet or at the owner's feet (where it belongs), and would just like to continue to stir shit with people like me who has busted my ass for 16 years at this show to (as BAJ ALWAYS SAID) make the childhood memories of the next generation.

Again, I'm disgusted and tired of people like you.

I wasn't there yesterday but have heard about this from many people. Ridiculous! Yes, they've had trouble getting the volume right, but they keep trying. I've talked to a few of them & they seem to be really nice people. They may not be what we're used to but is that a bad thing? When I heard about both the hate roses & the petitions I was felt embarrassed. What a horrible way to treat new people. I for 1 will be sending them roses this weekend, letting them know that some of us are behind them & that not all the people who work KRF are childish.

Wow, someone ought to tell the grumpy ones that they need to take a chill pill. That kind of undeserved bad will is only going to come back and bite them on the butt.

Now I feel like I need to go attend their show and leave a big tip.

just m'two coconuts..

ok, so they arent the norm of what we usually have at faire as far as being in the time period/"genuine" effect.

but, neither was thai food and everyone dug that..

And they had sound issues.

I can recall other sound issues in the shire over the years as well. No one hate rosed the sound guys then. ( that I can recall at least. I AM assumeing)

I personally aint into four part harmonies with high falsettos. no, it aint my bag.Just my musical taste talkin'. But its not like my neighboring shows dont have their share of annoyances as well. ( dust from the joust... like they can control it.. they're too busy trying not to get hurt AND put on a hell of a show. Bagpipes are nice as well, but not within the fifteen feet that I sometimes get it at. But its a cental type location. I dont blame him for trying to get as big an audience as he can. And I have had parade cut my line in a third many times. ) But all of them are still part of the show, as a WHOLE.

The Lost Boys were at our wench olympics since we were at thier stage and they COULD have been rehearsing, but thought we were FUN ( key word here, folks ) and were actually VERY nice to us while we got their stage soaking wet. ( yes, we wiped it up after.) We were thankful they were good audience members and even gave us a little music to go with our silliness. I assume they could have made a fuss about us doing it at all, but they didnt, and had a laugh instead.

So yeah.. Not a big fan of the tunes,( just me here..) but the guys are people besides what they do onstage. Arent we all? I feel shame as well that this show got to such a level this past weekend. it is good to know that not everyone is hazing the new, er,lost boys.

Its bad enough we have lost so many good acts over the years. Y'think razzing the new ones will make the faire get any better? By scareing off new entertainment by being jerks to them? Dosn't our faire have enough issues without adding to the pile?
Why spend money on the purpose of tearing someone apart? Did anyone make THAT much money this weekend to have enough to spare on being the bully on the playground?

My thanks to the rabbit for allowing these postings and speaking her mind. (I'm touching your ass in fondness via internet, sweets)

You know out here in MN, I get to hear the Tortoga Twins all freaking day, and they are soooo Ren friendly. Its always nice to listen to the SS stories on how they get to defuse patrons who are offended by them.

This just makes KRF seem smaller and smaller and less important. Hope you dont catch so and so making out with your boyfriend before study hall

Hmmm...

Am sort of out of the loop on this, as I am with most things. However, it seems to me that the whole situation has gotten completely out of hand. It's been handled badly all the way 'round. We talk so much about how faire folk are a family, we are SOOOOOO proud of how accepting we are of each other, how close we can get in spite of not seeing each other for several months of the year, and all that...and yet...stuff like this still happens...new folks show up...and find themselves in their current situation...over things, some of which, they have NO control whatsoever over. It's all rather sad, really.

my 2 cents...

Treat people the way you would want to be treated. That's it plain & simple.

Hey Bunny, I came across this on a friends friend list. Wow...hate roses...that is sad. And petitions? Some the Lost Boys stuff was not my cup of tea, but other songs were just ducky. I think folks need to get a life. if you don't like an act, just don't go. And no performer should petition against another...unless that other has stolen something. I hope the "boys" have a better reception.

*shrugs*

I gave up on the faires probably 3 years or so ago. I haven't missed them since. I love being able to just not do stuff that isn't fun any more. Especially when it involves people and crowds whom are what it makes 'not fun anymore'.
