okay...let's see if i cant chronicle some of my vacation.
leaving massachusettsfinally escaping work closer to 3.30PM on tuesday the 24th, our rabbit runs from rounder in a desperate attempt to get going before one more task is thrown her way. a "quick" stop at the local grocery store for some fruit, water, and snack bars and finally, the road.
i discovered shortly (after eating a quick dinner about 6PM) that my phone car charger wasnt working anymore, so a trip to wal-mart ensued somewhere in western mass.
then, nothing but road ahead!
and tolls. lots of tolls...fuck how did i forget about all the tolls?? eesh.
first leg driving is pretty uneventful. thankfully. somewhere about 1AM i pass an exit that has lodging, just outside the PA border. this exit looks dreadfully familiar, and i realize i've been here before. also seeking shelter for the night. to the tune of ridiculous amounts of dollars. but this time, i'll try the no-name hotel thats 5 miles off the highway....its bound to be a bit less expensive, right?
nuh-uh.
feck.
so, back through my scenic route, back to the turn pike...drive until i get to PA...manage to find a tiny hotel room at the super 8 for $50. take it and collapse into a semi-comfy bed and dreamless sleep.
erie: not just a town namewednesday morning dawns warm and sunny. how deceiving.
where am i? and where are my pants? oh yeah. here they are. and even a shower. woot!
i drive a few exists up to the cracker barrel for breakfast. ive been here before too. it was slow last time i drove through. it was again. *sigh*
somewhere around 10AM i get in gear and hope to hit milwaukee by 7PM....how optimistic of me.
ohio was a tortured soul, rife with thunderstorms and deluges. littered with amazingly run down buildings. strangely engineered rest stops and service areas. am i the only one who moos to the cows when driving by them all? what to say to the corn?
indiana not much better. i'll spare you the details.
illinois brings me closer...and somewhere north of chicago i exchange my first delivered goods with
captain_snarky at the back of a parking lot under the croonings of cicadas in the trees. i feel like there should have been trenchcoats involved. there was an exchanging of cash though. and dang nabit she is as hawt as ever. she tore off to strong arm fedex with her winnings, i grabbed a coffee at borders and headed north some more.
crossing into wisco and all is right with the world. the sun is setting a gorgeous red over on the left, and i've got the camera out. i'm a trained prefessional, dont try this at home. soon, i make it through to dink's house. his bachelor pad of doom: 3 guys, 2 dogs.
i made it to milwaukee only an hour and a half over my estimated time.
sweet!
to be continued...
